We met up with them before their show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg and instantly were welcomed into the room.
We spent about half an hour hanging with the crew backstage in one of the dressing rooms while The 1975 sound checked. Matty got upstairs and the interview began. Through talking with Katz before the show, and hearing the band leaders speak, there were a couple of great things mentioned that I am definitely going to keep in mind to apply to my own business.
1) BRANDING! These two bands are master-branders. All of their imagery is done in B&W- see the video to understand why. It is so important to know what you want and how to present yourself to the world. If you find yourself in the spotlight, you won't have time to figure this out publicly.
2) Finding people who get you. Work with them. Don't try to be someone or something that you are not. These bands recognized that their styles work together. Musically they are different, but stylistically they are similar. This works in fashion too. In order to deliver the best product to your client, you need to be able to understand and articulate their vision.
